Sophie Devine storm blows away Pakistan-W in Queenstown
As the New Zealand women’s team were locked in a fierce battle against a visiting Pakistani side in Queenstown, Sophie Devine posted a scintillating display of pyrotechnics, hammering away at will to propel New Zealand to a staggering 365/4 against an undercooked bowling unit in the first ODI of the three-match series.
On a day where all the Kiwi batters taking the yard came forth springing fire, it was Sophie’s extraordinary tempest at the end that saw New Zealand sailing hammer and tongs beyond the reach of visitors.
Coming out to bat in the 39th over, Devine took some time to open up her variegated arsenal. It was only after playing 12 balls that Pakistan realized the fact that they were caught in the eye of the storm and they had already crossed the Rubicon.
Nashra Sandhu was the first one to be dispatched to the ropes by Devine, who opens for RCB in the WPL, before she rocked Fatima Sana’s deliveries for consecutive sixes in the 47th over.
Come the 48th over, Devine inflicted severe punishment upon Omaima Sohail as she swatted the latter away for five humongous sixes, smashing a total of 32 runs from that over.
Before the curtains fell on what was an absolutely rambunctious knock at Queenstown, Sana was rocked for another boundary that saw Sophie reaching 70 from just 36 balls, a knock that featured two fours and six sixes.
