Virat Kohli continued his fine form in the T20 World Cup as he blitzed Bangladesh with an imperious display of firecrackers after getting off to a bumpy start. He stayed unbeaten for a captivating 64 off just 44 balls and in the process also went past the Sri Lankan legend, Mahela Jayawardene to become the highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament.

On the night of setting another important world record, one legend hailed the other for racking up such a herculean milestone. Congratulating Kohli, Jayawardene said, “Records are meant to be broken. Someone was always going to break my record, and it's you, Virat. Brilliant mate, congratulations. You've always been a warrior. Form is temporary but class is permanent. Well done, buddy.”

Mahela has 1016 runs in his T20 World Cup exploits from 31 games and Kohli was 16 short of bettering the record ahead of the contest against Bangladesh.

In the long haul of affairs, Kohli has participated in 5 T20 World Cups and has hammered 12 half-centuries. He is also the leading run-scorer in the shortest format of the game bettering the record of Rohit Sharma in recent times. He bagged the Player of the Match award after his stunning knock helped India clinch their third win of the tournament.
