Shubman Gill had his early struggles in getting off the block in the first five T20I matches of his career but the sixth time was the charm and the man came hurtling out in all his glory, raining boundaries upon the mighty Kiwis.

Leading India’s top-order, it was Shubman Gill who turned out to be the thorn in New Zealand’s flesh, peppering the bowlers to the ropes frequently and also churning out his maiden T20I century, toppling a list of crucial records in the shortest format of the game.

Here is a list of records that were toppled by India’s newest batting sensation.

·      Shubman Gill became the youngest Indian to score a T20I century at the tender age of 23 years and 146 days, surpassing the long-standing record of Suresh Raina who took 10 days more.

·      Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 126 is the highest score by an Indian in T20Is as he went past Virat Kohli who smashed 122 against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup.

·      Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 126 is also the highest score registered against New Zealand in T20Is by any batter as he rattled another long-standing record of Richard Levi’s 117.

·      Shubman Gill became the youngest Indian to score a century in all formats of the game, entering a rare list of records where he surpassed the likes of Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
