Shubman Gill climbs to No.1 spot in latest ICC Men’s ODI batter rankings

Shubman Gill returned to the pole position in ICC Men’s ODI Rankings after a wondrous performance at home against England. Leapfrogging Babar Azam, Gill stormed into the castle of supremacy, after knitting together a century and a couple of consecutive half-centuries against the visitors.
He smashed 87 in the first game, while scoring a 60 in the second. He went above and beyond his earlier two innings, hitting a sensational 112, propelling him to a tally of 259 runs at a strike rate of 103.60. The next highest scorer in the series was Shreyas Iyer with a total of 181 runs.
This is the second time that Gill reached the ace, with the previous one being during the ODI World Cup 2023. Gill’s tally surpassed that of Babar Azam by 23 points, rising to 796. Rohit Sharma grabbed the third position while Heinrich Klaasen and Daryll Mitchell moved into the fourth and the fifth spot respectively.
Amidst the bowlers, India’s Kuldeep Yadav gained a spot to move into the fourth position. Maheesh Theekshana was the pick of the lot, gaining a spot to move into the top of the bowlers’ rankings.
