Shubman Gill and Shafali Verma made massive strides in the latest monthly edition of the ICC awards. Gill bagged his fifth ICC Player of the Month award as he surpassed the likes of his national teammate, Abhishek Sharma, and Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza to clinch the prize for the month of September 2026.

India-W opener, Shafali Verma, won the ICC Player of the Month for September 2026, to bag her second ICC monthly recognition. Verma left a significant mark in the Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games, spearheading India’s batting, cruising to the ICC award, beating the two other nominations in the form of her Indian teammate, N Sree Charani and Sri Lankan captain, Chamari Athapaththu.

Gill bagged the Player of the Series award against West Indies in the ODI series, scoring a 110 in the first clash while clobbering an unbeaten double hundred in India’s record chase in the second ODI.

After winning the award, as quoted in a BCCI release, Gill said, “It feels fantastic to win my fifth ICC Player of the Month award, and I am grateful to the panel for this honour. It was immensely satisfying to score those runs and even more special to be part of successful run chases in front of our home fans, whose support always gives us an extra boost.”

He further added, “The pace of ODI cricket has gone up significantly, and you must think on your feet, assess the conditions quickly and adapt to the demands of the pitch and the target. With the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in southern Africa next year, we are determined to keep raising our standards and build a strong and balanced team capable of rising to the challenges ahead.”

Verma was also in phenomenal form in the recently concluded Asia Cup and the Asian Games. Verma became the leading run-scorer for India in the Women’s Asia Cup with a tally of 360 runs, smashed at a strike rate of 184.61. She also claimed six wickets in the tournament, simply adding further sheen to her tally.

In the same press release, Verma was quoted saying, “It is an incredible honour to win the ICC Player of the Month award again. It was immensely satisfying to play my part in our victories at the Asia Cup and the Asian Games, and winning this award makes those triumphs even more special.”

She concluded by saying, “I am excited about the months ahead and determined to keep performing at my best, with the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in February next year another tournament to look forward to. The memory of winning the World Cup is still so fresh and special, and I can’t wait to be back on the field for an ICC tournament on home soil. It promises to be an unforgettable experience!”
