Showed their character in both sessions post follow-on – Sairaj Bahutule on India’s late charge on Day 4
India had to take a decisive call after bundling out Sri Lanka for 290. With rains constantly a worrisome factor, the decision to enforce follow-on had to be made, considering the challenge of a tough pitch to bat on, especially on the final day.
India’s spin-bowling coach, Sairaj Bahutule, opened up on the decision to make the call. He shed light on how the Indian bowlers took the call despite the suddenness of it and eventually delivered the goods when it mattered the most.
Bahutule said, “One, the decision had to be taken, but the other part we were looking at the clouds every now and then, because the weather from Galle to Colombo have, you know, the rains are around any moment. So considering that, I think it was very important for us to, you know, there was no debate, but to give that follow-on and get on the field and make sure that we get the opposition now.”
He further added, “And I think Test cricket is all about, you know, taking those calls. And yes, definitely it is hard on the players, on the bowlers. But I think all of them were very well prepared. All of them wanted to follow on, and I think they showed their character in both the sessions post follow-on.”
