Roger Binny appointed as new BCCI president
Former India cricketer and a member of the Indian squad that conquered the world in 1983, Roger Binny, has been appointed Sourav Ganguly's successor as the 36th BCCI president. His appointment was officially announced at the BCCI AGM in Mumbai. Despite all the proceedings being pre-decided, the formality had to wait till this day as the communique could only come in an AGM.
Of late, Binny has been serving as the Karnataka State Cricket Association president and will now be renouncing his position to take up the pedestal in the apex cricketing authority of India. The medium pacer was instrumental in his exploits in India’s maiden World Cup triumph as he claimed 18 wickets in that tournament, surpassing the likes of the mighty Caribbean quicks and finishing as the highest wicket taker of the fray.
Binny has previously served as a member of the senior selection committee in the past, reporting to Sandeep Patil who led the show back then. He also led the Karnataka cricket association in all its glory as the state’s cricketing achievements and infrastructures proliferated and bolstered under his reign.
