Richa Ghosh: RCB’s beacon of brilliance, no matter the odds
Richa Ghosh put on a hitting masterclass to remember in the WPL 2026 clash against the Mumbai Indians, lifting RCB from 35/5 to 184/9 with a 50-ball 90 that completely changed the complexion of the game with a knock of the highest individual calibre.
Richa clobbered 10 fours and six sixes while she was in the center. Walking out to bat, while her team wobbled at 31/4, soon to be 35/5, Richa had a mountain ahead of her. She had support from Nadine de Klerk in steadying the RCB ship but it wasn’t her solitary priority.
Richa was out to win, she was out to deliver a statement. And boy, did she deliver. At the end of the day, she couldn’t get RCB across the finish line but dragging them from 35/5 to almost being within touching distance of the finish line, Richa was simply sensational.
Ghosh got off the mark with a boundary against Shabnim Ismail. Initially, it was all about restraint from her. She could only manage to score 16 runs from the first 23 balls. However, in the upcoming 27, she belted 74 runs, a knock that denied Mumbai Indians the advantage of running away with a big boost for their NRR.
The first tweak of acceleration came against Shabnim Ismail when Richa walked down the track and pummeled the ball past a stranded sweeper cover. Ismail got struck again on the last ball of the over as Richa kept RCB’s hopes alive, albeit by the skin of its teeth.
There was no looking back for Richa Ghosh as she defied all odds, fighting bravely till the very end. The 19th over bowled by Amanjot Kaur saw Richa clobber her for three sixes before she smashed Amelia Kerr for 16 runs in the final over. By the time Richa fell on the final ball of the innings, she had already registered her highest WPL score.
RCB fell short at the end for sure but once again Richa Ghosh showed it to the world that the day she gets going, bowlers might have their worst nightmare come alive. Ghosh played the shots all around the park. She didn’t hesitate and she didn’t hold back. Even halfway through losing her balance, she parked Amelia Kerr to the fence.
It was Richa Ghosh’s persistence that left RCB’s NRR pretty much on the higher side despite their defeat against Mumbai.
