Reminiscing the Chahal-Maxwell rivalry

In a show hosted by Mayank Agarwal, the Kul-Cha duo unfolded their journey, rapport, and hilarious dressing room tales.

When asked about his rivalry with Glenn Maxwell, Yuzvendra Chahal recollected an instance from 2017 wherein MS Dhoni helped him set up a ploy to dismiss the destructive Aussie batsman.

"Me and Mahi bhai had planned to bowl him wide of off stump. I thought he will come down the track and that is why I threw the ball much wider and got the wicket, " Chahal was quoted as saying to Mayank Agarwal on BCCI.tv.

The Haryana-born leg-spinner claimed that Maxwell looked rusty and restless throughout the series. And, would attack him instantly whenever he came onto bowl. However, Dhoni informed Chahal to mix it up and not to offer him the indication of bowling the wide delivery. So, whenever the option is used, it must be a wicket-taking delivery. The move reaped rewards, as Glenn Maxwell fell prey to the wide delivery.

"He was impatient in that series and used to attack me as soon as I came into bowl. I had a chat with Mahi Bhai on how to tackle this. He replied we'll mix it up and won't show him the wide delivery. So that when I bowl the ball outside off stump, it should be a wicket-taking delivery, " Chahal added.

Yuzvendra Chahal, with his tactful and shrewd sense of bowling, has repeatedly proven to be the most impactful wrist-spinner over the last seven years. Since 2014, the leg-spinner has registered 246 wickets at an overall economy rate of 7.01 in 178 matches across all formats.
