RCB women fail to get across finish line despite Ellyse Perry’s maiden WPL half-century

The heartbreaks didn’t really stop for the Royal Challengers women as they slumped down to their fourth straight defeat after another batting collapse despite a decent start from Sophie Devine followed by a resilient knock from Ellyse Perry.

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana departed for just 4, which saw Devine and Perry forge an important 44-run partnership for the second wicket before the New Zealand star was undone by a straighter one from Sophie Ecclestone.

Perry continued with her charge but ran short of partners at the other end, with RCB losing wickets are regular intervals that saw them skittled out for just 138 on the board. The Australian star top-scored with a 39-ball 52 while Devine (36), Shreyanka Patil (15) and debutant Erin Burns (10) played some eye-catching shots too.

The RCB bowlers yet again failed to make an impact and endured a torrid time on the field, with the Warriorz opening duo of skipper Alyssa Healy (47-ball 96*) and Devika Vaidya (31-ball 36*) taking the team to a stunning 10-wicket win.

RCB’s next fixture will be up against the Delhi Capitals on Monday at the Dr DY Patil Stadium, as the pursuit for that opening win continues for Smriti Mandhana and co.
