RCB Podcast Bold and Beyond: Players like Virat don’t need coaching – Dinesh Karthik
Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik were teammates for many years, both as part of the Indian cricket team and at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL. As Dinesh Karthik has now taken over the role of the batting coach and mentor at RCB, he spoke about the outlook towards coaching a legend such as Virat.
In the teaser released of the RCB Podcast: Bold and Beyond, DK opened up to Mayanti Langer that players like Virat Kohli need more of a human connect than coaching and the concept of the latter can be a little overrated.
Shedding light on the dynamics between the coaches and Virat, DK said, “Players like Virat don’t need coaching. I think it can be a bit overrated. What they need is support and care. They just want you as a coach to know that if I have a bad day, treat me the same. He is a man who has achieved everything possible in this sport.”
DK continued, “We want more out of him which is fair and he’s doing everything possible. So when I just stand behind the nets, I just observe, I watch, in fact, it’s only fair to say that it’s the other way around. He probably teaches me a little bit more than I teach him anything and so far I have taught him nothing. He knows it all. Just because I have become a coach over a period of three months, it’s not like I can teach him how to play the sport.”
