RCB Players Feature in BCCI Central Contracts for 2019-2020
With a number of Indian players from the RCB squad shining in different formats of the game, it was only a matter of time before more squad members got a chance to represent the Men in Blue.
On January 16th, 2020, the BCCI announced a 27-member list of central contract awardees for the 2019-20 season. The contracts were segmented in the following categories: Grade A+ – INR 7 Crore, Grade A – INR 5 Crore, Grade B – INR 3 Crore and Grade C – INR 1 Crore. Five RCB players featured on the list, and here’s how these players earned their contracts.
Virat Kohli (Grade A+)
The talismanic captain of the RCB team as well as Team India, Virat’s quality is amongst cricket’s elite. Now he has reached a stage of his career when he is bound to break some record or the other in almost every game he plays. He was likely to be the first name to be selected in the top category.
Yuzvendra Chahal (Grade B)
Yuzi has become one of the mainstay bowlers for Team India. He is an almost certain pick for India’s Playing XI, owing to his consistent wicket taking abilities. When he’s not sending batsmen back to the pavilion, he is keeping them limited to a tight run-rate.
Umesh Yadav (Grade B)
Umesh has had to reinvent himself multiple times down the years, and he has changed his style to suit the evolving game. In 2019, he shone with the red ball, and after his dominating show against Bangladesh, he is now one of Team India’s mainstay bowlers in Test cricket.
Navdeep Saini (Grade C)
Saini’s rise to fame and recognition has been almost as fast as his deliveries. The Karnal Express has proved that being considered a rookie can be used to one’s advantage. His development as a fast bowler probably shows one of the steepest curves in the world of cricket.
Washington Sundar (Grade C)
Some players are all about diligence, discipline and hard work. No one exemplifies this better than Washington Sundar. After successful spells in domestic competitions for his state team, Washington has deservedly become a regular selection for India’s white ball squads.
Apart from these five players, expect to see more of Shivam Dube who has already featured regularly for India in the past year, and perhaps Devdutt Padikkal too, who has been impressive for Karnataka in all competitions
