RCB might actually do well: Aakash Chopra
After the International Cricket Council announced the postponement of T20 World Cup, IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel said, "We were waiting for the ICC to officially announce [the postponement]. We have applied [for permission] with the Indian government. Should get it."
Right now, the BCCI is closely working with the Indian Government to get clearance to host the IPL in the UAE. While BCCI and the franchises are making necessary preparations, Aakash Chopra believes that RCB will benefit from playing in the UAE.
While speaking on his YouTube show ‘Aakash Vani’, Chopra said, “Batting conditions would not have much of an impact. In fact, certain teams may start feeling better. RCB for example, because when the grounds are big your bowling is not exposed that much even if it is weak. RCB I think might actually do well.”
In the 2020 IPL auction RCB acquired a good bunch of overseas pacers like Chris Morris, Kane Richardson and Isuru Udana, all of whom could be crucial to the Bengaluru side when playing in Middle Eastern conditions.
The problem I am seeing is that if the IPL starts on 26 September and ends on 7 November, it is about 6 weeks including the final week of playoffs, there might be a lot of double-headers with the league phase to be completed in 5 weeks,” he added.
He further added, “In double-headers, however pleasant it might be, it is after all the heat of the middle east. So, batsmen might get dehydrated.”
