RCB hope to regain winning stride against resurgent Mumbai Indians
After a couple of defeats on the trot, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be hopeful of shaking away the rust as they take on Mumbai Indians in a crucial home fixture in Raipur. Currently in contrasting positions on the points table, RCB will hope to snatch that victory to push themselves into the pole position.
In their last game against the Lucknow Super Giants, despite initial hiccups, a superb fightback from Rajat Patidar and Tim David led RCB to a solid performance. Mumbai Indians, however, will arrive at this clash on the back of a win against the same foe, having chased down a monumental total of 228 with an over to spare.
With rain playing a significant factor in the last game for RCB, they will be hoping to get a sense of fluid stability in terms of executing their plan in Raipur. Despite their bowlers going for a few runs, their batters did put up a show in formidable fashion. One of the major points that might intensify RCB’s frown is the dearth of runs for Jacob Bethell. But RCB has shown persistence in the young batter and would be hoping that he finds his stride back.
The last time these two teams met, RCB secured a fine in a high-scoring battle. Tim David unleashed a monster innings while Phil Salt and Rajat Patidar were impeccable with the bat too. Mumbai Indians saw a late charge from Sherfane Rutherford getting them to a formidable number but it wasn’t enough for them to secure a win.
Venue Watch
The surface in Raipur has been a batting conducive track. However, it won’t exactly be a belter. Batters will have to resort to caution at times and will have to be smart about shot selections. The scores might be close to 200 but then with hints of spongy bounce in the mix, the carry might not always be true. Spinners will get something to look forward to in the first half of the game but in the second half with the dew coming on, it might be a complete nullification of the turners.
