RCB end home leg with a loss as Delhi Capitals pocket huge win

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s WPL 2025 home leg campaign ended with the hosts hit with another loss, this time at the hands of the Delhi Capitals, who registered a massive 9-wicket win at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Delhi skipper Meg Lanning won the toss and put RCB into bat first, and the home team were put under the pump straight away as they lost skipper Smriti Mandhana (9) in the second over.

Ellyse Perry walked in and joined Danni Wyatt-Hodge (21) as the pair put on 44 runs for the second wicket, before the latter was dismissed by Marizanne Kapp. Raghvi Bist and Perry then combined for a 66-run partnership, but with boundaries coming at a premium and pressure mounting, Bist (33) was dismissed in her quest of quick runs.

Perry, though, looked in pristine touch as she brought up third half-century in four home games, a 47-ball 60 with three fours and three sixes, a knock that played a massive hand in RCB eventually putting up 147/5 in 20 overs as the other lower order batters failed to come to the party.

The RCB bowlers got off to a great start as they had the Capitals on the ropes at 5/1 off 3 overs, with Lanning back in the hut courtesy of a stunning catch by Ellyse Perry at mid-on.

However, that was the only phase of control from the hosts as the pair of Shafali Verma (80*) and Jess Jonassen (61*) ran away with the game, consistently finding the boundaries that ensured DC were always ahead with the asking rate.

The Capitals eventually chased the 148-run target in 15.3 overs, which also earned them a guaranteed spot in the Top 3.
