RCB Bold Diaries: The incredible tale of Yash Dayal rising from his own ashes

We are all aware of the glitz and glam that cricket has to offer. However, even the biggest of names have seen the darkest of times and when tragedy strikes, no matter the stature, even the strongest fall. A few washes away while the others fight and cling onto dear life in hope of a new dawn. The tale of Yash Dayal is somewhat similar, a tale of hope, a tale of darkness, a tale of a rebirth from the very ashes.

To know about this magical tale of belief, you certainly need to watch the latest episode of RCB Bold Diaries. It started with Yash saying, “Hi, I am Yash Dayal. I come from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Professionally, I am a fast bowler. I play for RCB and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association.”

Yash continued, “When I came to the Ranji Trophy, Rinku was already there. He had a debut long time back. He is a very good friend. We share a bond like we are no friends, we are brothers.”

He then shifted his focus to the 2022 IPL, stating, “That year’s IPL was a very good season for me. Based on that tour, I was selected for the Bangladesh tour. Unfortunately, I was injured and that is why I couldn’t go on that tour. When the 2023 IPL arrived, I had not played a single game. I was at the NCA. Before the KKR match, there were three matches that were played. In all the three matches, I bowled one over each. I got the 11th over, maybe in another game, I got the 12th over and in one I got the 13th over.”

Yash continued, “I felt that I was not getting used to bowling because I wasn’t bowling much. Suddenly when the KKR match arrived, something unthinkable happened. Ahead of the match, I was already sick. I had a viral fever and I was still pushing myself. What followed thereafter was that I fell a lot sicker after the match.”

Getting back to the match, however, he said, “Actually, I was supposed to bowl the penultimate over but then the captain and coach had a discussion and decided to give me the final over. I was prepared alright but if I would have been honest with myself and had a chat with the team management, then possibly after the game, I would have played the upcoming matches too. But such ifs and buts are always prevalent in cricket. Whatever happened was a part of the journey and in every cricketer’s life, sometime or the other, some day or the other, this day has come.”

Stating more, he said, “After the match, everyone came to console me. When I went into the dressing room, the management of Gujarat Titans was so good that they didn’t even discuss that match. They just went about their business as if everything was okay. Ashu Pa (Ashish Nehra) said that whatever has happened, but focus on what lies ahead. You will definitely do well if you work a little harder than you always do. You will never know when you will forget all these things.”

He continued, “I started focusing on the very things and spoke to my family after that. When the incident happened, my family was very hurt. My mother is very emotional. For many days, she didn’t eat food. Only a day after I got a message from Rinku asking ‘Brother how are you?’ I told him that everything is fine. It is an obvious point. You and I are friends, you will think well for your team and I will think well for my team. No matter whatever the result is, I am happy that you asked me. Everything was fair and everything is fair. I accepted it sportingly.”

Yash further said, “I think I should have listened to my seniors. Those who had gone through the phase had told me that I stay away from social media. Now social media has become very abusive.”

Earlier in the video he iterated the lessons that he got from the over which we will be using as a conclusive note here, stating, “The spike that I got in my career, that over grounded me back to reality. It gave me a lot of learning. For what I am not prepared for in life, that over taught me how to prepare in my life for them. That over also taught me how to tackle situations.”
