RCB Bold Diaries: I am one such person who takes time to understand what has happened: Dinesh Karthik

The precursor edition of the IPL Auction witnessed RCB going head on for Dinesh Karthik, a man who suffered a slump in between for a couple of years and was almost on the brink of being written off. However, come March 2022, RCB had a new finisher, a new nightmare for the bowlers in Dinesh Karthik, a man who was defying all possible norms, and most importantly the general conception of him being finished.

On a fine winter morning of January 2023, the sleeping Chinnaswamy opted to open its groggy eyes and started wrapping itself up in its signature nets, threads that have been the witness to the wartime preparations of countless legends and icons either in the national colours or in the flamboyant red and gold.

In the latest RCB Bold Diaries video, Dinesh Karthik opened up on his first practice session for the upcoming 2023 IPL campaign. Karthik started with, “After we finished the World Cup, there was always a bit of lull in everyone’s life because the results weren’t exactly what the team and the players expected out there.”

He further added, “But for me, at an individual level, it takes some time to digest and I am one such person who takes time to understand what has happened, figure out what needs to be done better in life and how do we move forward. So, I take a stop, assess whatever has happened, take my time and push forward.”

Dinesh Karthik then revealed what he has been upto since the World Cup ended, saying, “It ended in October. I took some time off. Year ending is completely about festivals. So, I spent some time with my family at home and kept wishing that I have the best year ahead.”

He also shed some light on his hustle for the upcoming season as he said, “From a physical standpoint, I have started training with our trainer Basu. That is one of the key aspects. As a cricketer and as a professional it is very very important to stay fit and now that I have taken the break and I have enjoyed myself. So, I need to let go and lose a lot of the flab that I have put on in the last two months.”

Karthik added, “Apart from that, I am also getting my cricket done, making sure that I am taking those small and steady steps towards batting and physical preparations.” The Finisher Supreme will be desperate to put on a show in the upcoming days where the Royal Challengers Bangalore will be banking heavily upon him to show the way towards the tail-end of the innings.
