RCB Bold Diaries: Glenn Maxwell gives his assessment of RCB’s emphatic win against DC

It was yet another stunning performance from the team as RCB turned around a game that looked like it had all the odds stacked against them. Dinesh Karthik provided the finishing touches with the bat before the bowling unit put in a collective effort to fend off conditions and the Delhi batting to make it 4 wins in 6 for RCB.

But, all that started with a counter-attacking knock, typical of an Australian by Glenn Maxwell. What was the strategy going into the over where he took 23 runs off Kuldeep Yadav that began the resurgence? “When Kuldeep came on from that end, ‘just hit it to the short boundary.' I thought I’ll take him on that side, and I was able to get a hold of a few,”  said Maxwell whose 34-ball 55 pushed RCB’s innings back on track.

It was Kuldeep who proved to be Maxwell’s nemesis when he came back to bowl as Maxwell perished in the deep. “But when he came back on the second time, we had lost that extra wicket, and that probably had taken away that aggressive intent which led to my downfall, being a little bit in two minds. So, good knowledge for next time, just sort of stay positive,” he admitted.

Despite his dismissal, Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed completed a stunning back 10 overs for RCB. “Really happy with the way the guys finished it off. DK (Dinesh Karthik) and Shahbaz (Ahmed) at the end were so good and got us to a total which we thought on this wicket was going to be really hard to chase, and once the dew came in, it evened up the battle again,” Maxwell said.

However, the bowlers held their nerve to deliver a convincing 16-run win for RCB. ”The way our bowlers performed, that was a really special effort with the ball. I think a lot of teams in the competition would’ve probably started using excuses of the wet ball, conditions, and the short boundary against them, but the way we were able to hold our nerve, that was brilliant, and a real sign that the team is growing with confidence each game,” said an upbeat Maxwell.
