Ravindra Jadeja becomes second Indian after Kapil Dev to achieve a massive feat in ODI cricket
Despite India being unable to end their Super Fours on a high after a tight defeat against Bangladesh ahead of the big Asia Cup final, Ravindra Jadeja equalled a massive feat as that of India legend, Kapil Dev.
After India had a headstart in the game with four early wickets against Bangladesh, there was some steep resistance shown by the latter’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan, who smashed a quickfire 80 alongside Towhid Hridoy’s 54, steering their team out of the immediate jeopardy.
It was Shardul Thakur who produced the all-important breakthrough, removing Shakib at an important stage in the game. Things then turned tight again for Bangladesh as Ravindra Jadeja caught Shamim Hossain off-guard, with the latter barely able to break free from the quicker one on his pads, and he was caught plumb in front.
Shamim’s wicket was Jadeja’s 200th ODI scalp, making him the second Indian after Kapil Dev to score 2000+ runs and pick up 200 wickets in the 50-over format. Jadeja also joined the elite list that stars the likes of Sanath Jayasuriya, Shahid Afridi, Daniel Vettori and Bangladesh skipper, Shakib.
Additionally, Jadeja became the 7th Indian to have racked up 200 ODI wickets after Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev.
After a good show against Bangladesh, Jadeja now has 200 scalps from 174 ODIs at an average of 36.83, while registering an economy rate of 4.89 and he’ll have a massive role to play against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final.
