Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja maintain Indian dominance in latest ICC Test rankings
Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin continued to lead the charts in the ICC Test rankings amongst the bowlers while New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson leapfrogged erstwhile English skipper Joe Root to bag the pole position in the batters’ rankings.
Despite losing the WTC final against Australia, India continued to dominate the Test rankings, cementing themselves at the top of the points table. Ravichandran Ashwin has 860 points under his belt while an impressive display in the ongoing Ashes saw the Aussie Test skipper, Pat Cummins climb up to the second spot with 826 points.
Keeping the Indian dominance intact even in the all-rounders' list, a feisty showdown in the WTC final from Ravindra Jadeja saw him acing the all-rounders chart with 434 points. However, the dearth of Indian batters in the top ten rankings continued as Rishabh Pant who is still recuperating from his accident last year, clinched the tenth position and was the only name in the top ten Test rankings of the world.
However, the shorter formats of the game saw the Indian batters making headways as Shubman Gill clinched the fifth position while Virat Kohli found himself nestled in the eighth position while Rohit Sharma followed suit in the tenth.
Talking about the bowlers in the Indian threads who ruled the top ten, Mohammed Siraj was the only moniker to have found himself cruising in the tenth position. Shifting the focus to other international stars, Kane Williamson climbed up to the pinnacle of the batting rankings in Test cricket for the sixth time.
Joe Root who failed to rack up sizzling numbers of late, dropped to the fifth place in the ICC Test batting rankings while Steve Smith clinched the second position of the rankings. Williamson has 883 points while Steve Smith is just a solitary point shy of the ace of the batters’ rankings. Marnus Labuschagne whose bat hasn’t been gunning of late, found himself rooted to the third spot with 873 points.
