Ramesh Powar named Head Coach of Indian Women’s Cricket Team

Ramesh Powar has been named the Head Coach of Team India (Senior Women), the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Thursday.

The BCCI had received over 35 applications for the post.

All applicants were interviewed by the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Madan Lal and Mr Rudra Pratap Singh.

On completion of the interview process, the committee unanimously agreed on the name of Powar.

Powar has been a coach of the Women’s team in the past. It was under his tenure in 2018 that India made it to the semifinals of the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup.

Most recently Powar was the coach of the Mumbai senior team which won the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The former India spinner has also been involved with the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru as a bowling coach.
