Rahul Dravid has been one of the most hard-working cricketers ever since his playing days. From embracing the most difficult work ethics to batting for countless hours during India’s ordeal in the Test matches, Dravid was the true sign of resilience. Apart from his cricketing glory, he would also be an eager learner, taking feedback from his seniors.

Narrating one such incident at the 50-year-celebration of the Mount Joy Cricket Club, he would highlight how he would wait till the very end of a practice session just to listen to his seniors speak, which would boost his cricket lessons. It was also a walk down the memory lane for the Wall as he revisited his days of youth.

Reminiscing his days of learning cricket, Dravid added, “After the practice, HAL [Hindustan Aeronautics Limited] would give us two eggs and one small glass of milk. I would always stay back for that glass of milk and those eggs. Not because I wanted the milk and eggs. But because I wanted to sit and listen to the likes of BK Kumar or Nandan talking about cricket. And it used to be great fun to listen to them and learn so much from them."

Apart from his own days of diligence, he has also pointed out how the Indian cricket standards in the domestic scene has changed over the years. He said, “You just look at the standard of the Ranji Trophy. In the old days when you played in the South Zone, other than playing Hyderabad or Tamil Nadu, I think it is fair to say, without being disrespectful, that a lot of other teams you could take it not for granted but you could certainly take it a little bit more lightly. I don't think there is any team in the South Zone today that you can walk in and say you will beat comfortably."

Rahul Dravid cuts a legendary figure in Indian cricket with his endless contributions not just as a player but also as a coach. He recently won the T20 World Cup which was his last assignment as the Indian gaffer.
