Rahul Dravid is clearly installing the right mentality in his players: Michael Vaughan
Team India has a solid depth in its squad, youngsters keep raising the bar every time they get an opportunity to play. Interestingly, most of these younger players were mentored by former India and RCB captain Rahul Dravid during his tenures as India U-19, A-side coach, and Director, Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
It is safe to say that the future of Indian cricket is bright. Speaking to Cricbuzz, former England captain Michael Vaughan credited the Wall for bringing out the best in these players through a well-defined system.
“Whatever India are doing behind the scenes, I know we keep mentioning the IPL but I think Rahul Dravid with his A-side and development program is clearly installing the right mentality in his players. All these players are being brought through the system into the international India team which is a huge pressure cooker. Full credit to the system that India has produced, they are getting it absolutely right,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.
Debutant Prasidh Krishna got hammered for runs in the initial spell by the English openers, but that didn't shatter his confidence. The 25-year-old Karnataka-born cricketer did make a comeback, and in the process became the first India bowler to scalp a four-wicket haul on ODI debut.
“A young debutant with great character. To bounce back the way that he did today just shows that he is made of the right stuff. That’s why these kinds of bowlers are picked in white-ball cricket. They may go for a few runs, but they get wickets. They unsettle the batting unit. They bowl a few short bowls at a decent pace. Every now and then they get wickets with poor balls because the batters think they can crash them to the boundary at a regular occurrence,” Vaughan said.
