Quite exciting time for me: Shiv Sunder Das on his appointment as the batting coach of India women’s team
The BCCI has named former India batsman Shiv Sunder Das as the batting coach of the India women's team. Along with Das, former Delhi wicketkeeper-batsman Abhay Sharma has joined the team as fielding coach. This comes after Ramesh Powar's recent appointment as head coach of the senior women's team.
During an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Shiv Sunder Das expressed his gratitude for being given the opportunity to coach the national team.
“This is the first time I have been assigned a job with the India women’s national team, so it is a quite exciting time for me,” Das told ESPN Cricinfo.
The Odisha born cricketer was a part of the India squad that toured England in 2002, and he believes that experience would come in handy for the team.
“I am really looking forward to it. It will be a good challenge for me because I have toured England as a player and played a lot of league cricket. Conditions-wise I am a bit familiar, so it will be nice to add value to the team. My focus is only on the England tour as of now because I have come in for the England tour,” he added.
The Indian women’s team will face England women in a one-off four-day Test match, three ODIs, and three T20Is starting on June 16th.
