The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly lauded Parthiv Patel after the latter hung up his boots on Wednesday. In a statement released by BCCI, Ganguly congratulated Parthiv on a 'fantastic career' and said that the southpaw's contribution for Gujarat in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy Final will always be etched in the memories.

Chasing a mammoth 312 runs in the fourth innings, Parthiv Patel played a captain's knock, scoring 143 runs off 193 balls. His heroic effort was instrumental in Gujarat claiming their maiden Ranji Trophy title.

"I congratulate him on a fantastic career and wish him the very best for his future endeavours. His performance in the Ranji Trophy final to win Gujarat their only title will always be remembered in the history of Gujarat cricket," - Ganguly was quoted as saying in a statement released by BCCI.

"Parthiv has been a brilliant ambassador for Indian cricket. He has always been a team man and it was a pleasure to captain him when he made his international debut at the age of seventeen. His hard work has earned him laurels in international and domestic cricket," - He further added.

The veteran wicket-keeper batsman, on Wednesday, announced his retirement from all formats. He took to social media to make the big announcement, thanking his well-wishers who stood by him throughout his 18-year career.

Parthiv Patel has featured in 25 Tests, 38 ODIs, and two T20Is for India. Apart from that, he has a stellar record in domestic cricket. In 194 first-class matches, the 35-year-old has amassed over 11,000 runs with 27 centuries and 67 half-centuries. He surely deserves to go down as one of the greats of domestic cricket. Thank you for all the memories, Parthiv.
