Official: IPL 2022 schedule announced; RCB to kick-off season against Punjab Kings on 27th March

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule for the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League. The 15th edition of the tournament is all set to begin on the 26th of March, with the Royal Challengers Bangalore opening their season against Punjab Kings on the 27th of March at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

“The 15th season will start on 26th March at the Wankhede stadium with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders,” read the Media advisory released by the IPL. The final fixture of the league phase will take place on the 22nd of May. RCB’s final league fixture will be against newcomers Gujarat Titans on the 19th of May at the Wankhede stadium. The dates and the venues for the Playoffs are yet to be announced.

As announced earlier by the BCCI, the tournament will be played out across 4 venues - The Wankhede stadium and the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and the MCA stadium in Pune. While the Wankhede and the DY Patil Stadium will host 20 games each, the Brabourne and the MCA stadium will witness 15.

The 15th season of the IPL will have 12 doubleheaders. 6 of those will be on Saturdays while the other 6 will be on Sundays. All the afternoon games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM IST, while the evening games will begin at 7:30 PM IST, according to the advisory.

RCB will be playing two afternoon games - one each against the Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede.
