Nostalgia Cam: Kevin Pietersen signs off with a perfect ploy
Kevin Pietersen’s flamboyance was at its peak when RCB signed him in 2009. He came with a reputation, ignoring the fact he was available for only the first six games of the season, he was handed over the reins of the team.
Till today KP talks about that season. It was the season that would see RCB go onto play the final. However, that happened under the watch of Anil Kumble after KP had left.
Pietersen was a marquee signing. RCB won the first game but the next four losses were heavy enough to dent the morale. The last game of the season for Pietersen was against Kolkata Knight Riders. In the last 5 years or so KP had built a reputation of being a leather hunter, a fearless attacker who did not care for the reputation of the bowler he was facing. But few would have known he had a couple of extra tricks up his sleeves.
So, to the utmost surprise of everyone at Kingsmead, Durban, Pietersen decided to bring himself into the attack.
While the naysayers are free to brush aside the following events as a mere fluke. But it was a sight to behold as he got rid of dangerous Brendon McCullum as the latter cut one straight to point off his very first ball. A perfect beginning to KP’s final game of the season!
