With just a 107-run target to defend on Day 5, the Indian bowlers did put in everything they could at the Kiwi batters, but that was only enough to keep them from scoring runs early on. A formidable batting unit of the Blackcaps saw the challenge through as they registered a historic win against the hosts.

Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in the second innings to remove the Kiwi openers. He trapped Tom Latham (0) on the first ball of Day 5 and soon enough also picked Devon Conway's (17) wicket to provide a glimmer of very faint hopes for India. However, a solid partnership between Will Young (48*) and Rachin Ravindra (39*) fended off the challenge from the Indian bowlers and got New Zealand home safely.

Two collapses in a span of three days saw India stumble badly but amidst the questions, three special knocks from Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant defined India’s fightback in the second innings despite the late avalanche. Rachin Ravindra clinched the Player of the Match award for his incredible 134 in the first innings and an unbeaten 39 in the second.
