Mumbai seek first win against impressive Lucknow
In a desperate lunge for their opening win of the tournament, one of the most successful teams in its antiquity, Mumbai Indians will be taking the arena with newcomers Lucknow Super Giants who have so far shown pretty decent form despite a defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last game.
The Mumbai Indians had another close shave with victory but were denied by a soaring MS Dhoni in the end who belted out a signature finishing masterclass that included a boundary to finish things off. Despite a dab of late deliverance in the knocks with the bat in their arms, Mumbai’s bowling has so far been in questionable shape and with Bumrah struggling to hit his complete potential, the team has no immediate key to arrest this landslide.
The Super Giants have posted pretty resonating displays until now and despite their fall against the Challengers, they have significant firepower in their shed to destabilize empires, no matter how old and experienced their counterparts may be in the IPL fabric. Their batting depth has been one of the most talked-about pecking orders of the latest edition of the IPL. Their bowling has struggled to maintain a steady rate of consistency but on days when their bowlers have found their rhythm, oppositions have struggled to break free from the manacles.
This will be an intriguing challenge with the Super Giants coming to this encounter with a rare defeat while for the Blue Army, anything less than a win will be an indelible blemish in their already bloated history.
Venue Watch:
Wankhede has always shared a very special connection with the batters given the flat surfaces and shorter boundaries. With the dew factor coming in the second half of the game, it will simply be a paradise for the ones wielding the willow. Unlike the other grounds that are being used in IPL 2022, Wankhede doesn’t offer the initial bounce and carry that makes the equation absolutely simple for the batters: Go out to the middle and start hammering the bowlers without any hesitation whatsoever.
