Mumbai seek first points against impressive Royals

Despite a decent show with the bat, Mumbai Indians failed to have the last laugh as the Delhi Capitals savored an emphatic win, courtesy of a frenetic partnership between Delhi Capitals and Lalit Yadav. After being reduced to 102 for 6, in an unexpected resurgence, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel played a seraphic knock to completely dismantle the five-time champions.

Rajasthan Royals, on the contrary, played a brilliant game on their opening day as they left the Sunrisers reeling in agony with a superlative display in all the departments. Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal played crucial roles with the bat while Yuzvendra Chahal and Prasidh Krishna belted out an excellent display to leave the Orange Army rattled.

For the Mumbai Indians, they will be desperate to bag their first win of the contest as they started the campaign on a sour note. Much to everyone’s surprise, Jasprit Bumrah, their star bowler was whacked to all corners of the park as he conceded 43 runs from just 3.2 overs. With Jofra Archer unavailable for the entire season, the Indian ace bowler will be hoping for a turnaround of affairs.

Another crucial factor that would bother Mumbai will be the hammering that Daniel Sams received. He was the replacement for Trent Boult but his display wouldn’t make the Men in Blue pretty hopeful as they clash with the Royals who are in prime form. Rajasthan will be hoping that Sanju Samson continues to deliver. More importantly, the performance shown by Devdutt Padikkal in the middle order will act as a massive impetus to the men in Pink.

Venue Watch:

The last game that was played at DY Patil witnessed a sudden change in the surface’s complexion as there was some additional movement and the batters found it difficult to break free at any point of the game. Instead of the usual run-flow, there was a perennial struggle for batters of both sides while the bowlers ran riots. If the spinners gave a tough test in the first innings, the pacers produced some insane swing in the second that left the Challengers struggling to get the desired runs.
