Michael Bracewell ruled out of ICC ODI World Cup 2023
In a telling blow to New Zealand’s World Cup aspirations, talented all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC ODI CWC 2023 after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon during the ongoing T20 Blast competition.
The all-rounder is expected to undergo surgery in the UK and will be out of action for six to eight months, effectively ruling him out of the World Cup, which will be hosted by India from October 5.
New Zealand head coach, Gary Stead said, “Firstly, you always feel for the player when injury strikes and especially when it means they will have to miss a world event. Michael’s naturally pretty disappointed, but also pragmatic in acknowledging that injuries are a part of sport and he's now turning his focus to his rehabilitation."
New Zealand’s ODI player of the year for 2022-23, Bracewell also featured for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in his maiden IPL season where he picked up six wickets in five matches, including best figures of 2/13 before he joined Worcestershire Rapids in the T20 Blast.
Bracewell’s absence from the squad will come as a body blow for the Black Caps, who are already sweating on the fitness of Kane Williamson, who went under the knife for a serious injury he picked up during IPL 2023.
