Mayank Agarwal added to the Indian squad for the Test match against England

Mayank Agarwal will be a part of the Indian Test squad that will contest England in the one-off affair eventually putting an end to the unfinished business from 2022. The Test is scheduled to be played from July 1st and didn’t have Mayank in the initial squad that traveled to the English shores. However, KL Rahul’s injury and doubts about Rohit Sharma’s availability after testing positive have made way for the Test opener.

More importantly, given the latest travel advisory, Mayank Agarwal would not have to go through quarantine upon arrival, which makes him immediately available for the national team. Agarwal’s last Test appearance came in March against Sri Lanka but his exploits would read only 59 runs from 2 Test matches. Despite a slump in his form of late that has produced bare minimal returns, it is his preceding experience that would make him an urgent addition to the side in case Rohit fails to recover.

It may come as a surprise but Mayank was the first-choice opener in the original Test series that would eventually meet its conclusion at Birmingham. Sadly, before the series started, he would cop a severe concussion that had ruled him out, allowing KL Rahul to make an appearance as the opener. Rahul would add significant numbers with the runs tally reading 315, the second-highest for India.
