Malolan Rangarajan on how ‘simplification’ could be the key to success for RCB at the WPL 2026 Mega Auction

Player auctions are dynamic and unpredictable, and RCB Head Coach Malolan Rangarajan is taking no prisoners - having clearly studied the landscape and prepared for what the upcoming WPL 2026 Mega Auction may bring with it on November 27th in New Delhi.

Speaking with Mayanti Langer on the latest episode of RCB Bold Diaries, Malolan said, “It’s such a dynamic place, the auction. So you have to be aware of the other team, what money is left for them with the players they’ve picked, what does the team look like, so how much are they going to prioritize a particular role, who’s coming next - are they part of our plans or not? So you have to be on top of this when the auction is happening.”

He added, “I’ve learned this just with my interaction with a lot of coaches. Over there, as much as you try to simplify things it’s better and it’s very easy, especially in Mega Auctions where you have to pick more than seven or eight players, you could become really geeky and nerdy and smart and come up with different combinations. As long as you’re able to simplify it I think we’ll be in a good place.”

Malolan is also well aware of all the attention he will garner over due course, all of it based on the picks RCB make at the Mega Auction.

“It’s not to discount the attention, it is inevitable. This is the gig, the attention, the decisions, so I’m very aware of what might be the perception from outside, but for me what matters is what’s happened inside the room, what we’ve decided and how much of it we are able to execute in the auction.”

He finished by saying, “So I do understand and I do acknowledge that there will be the attention but I think I’ve learned to develop a good relationship with the attention that comes through mediums that I don’t have control over, so I welcome the attention and I welcome anything that comes my way.”
