Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals hope to hit winning stride after contrasting fortunes in IPL 2023
In a battle of two extremes where one team has been pulling off one miracle after the other that also involved a 32-run final over, toppling all possible credible records of smashing five sixes in a chase and that too in the 20th, the other would be walking in with a belief that they still have a pretty solid shy at making the cut for the playoffs. It is going to be Kolkata Knight Riders taking on the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The Knight Riders will be coming to this fixture on the back of a defeat against the Mumbai Indians as their batters, except Venkatesh Iyer, were no match for a rampant Mumbai Indians bowling unit. Iyer, however, completely changed the game with KKR’s first century since that opening game in the history of the IPL where Brendon McCullum smashed 158.
Delhi Capitals, on the contrary, have lost in all the five matches that they have played and the last defeat came against RCB. Mitch Marsh and Kuldeep Yadav were bang on with their bowling, registering four wickets between them for just 41 runs from eight overs while Manish Pandey was the solitary hope for the Capitals on the batting front with a battling 50.
For the Knights, a win is crucial as that will keep them in the hunt for finishing in the top four but a defeat can prove to be costly as they will have some serious digging to do when they try and come forth in the following fixtures. For Delhi, it is a must-win match because if this goes down for the Capitals, they will go right to the very edge of the tournament.
