Kohli is an absolute master of one-day cricket – Shane Watson
With the World Test Championship journey in the ongoing cycle meeting its due conclusion for Team India after defeat against Australia, the Men in Blue now shift their focus to the all-important Champions Trophy. With the tournament all set to return after eight staggering years, India will be hopeful of a fine showdown to redeem themselves after a forgettable drubbing Down Under.
One of the key challenges for India has been the lack of numbers from their top order. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struggling for form, worries deluge the horizon for Team India. However, former Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson has highlighted that the format is a wheelhouse for two of India’s batting virtuosos.
Talking to Star Sports, Shane Watson said, “I don't think it (current poor form) will really play a part at all with Rohit Sharma and Virat's impact in one-day cricket. It's going to be different conditions where they're playing in Dubai. One-day cricket does really free them both as well.”
Following this, Watson heaped the ultimate praise on his former RCB teammate, Virat Kohli. Staggering numbers that read 295 ODIs and 13906 runs at an average of 58.18 for VK, also places him on a pedestal of rarity. Stating further about VK, Watto said, “Kohli is an absolute master of one-day cricket."
He further added, “Yes, he's a master of all formats, but especially ODIs. You see his extraordinary numbers over a long period of time, averaging around 57 and a strike rate of 93 over a long period of time. It's crazy to think the control that he has over his innings.”
