KL Rahul opens up about his special knock on Day One of the Centurion Test
India firmly established themselves in the driver’s seat on day one as KL Rahul hammered a blistering ton while Mayank Agarwal, Rahane and Kohli provided cameos. Rahane is still unbeaten on 40 and was supposed to resume his role on the second day, but rain played spoilsport.
Rahul opened up about his special knock to BCCI.TV as he quoted, “It is truly special, every hundred really takes something out of you and gives you joy. There are so many emotions you go through when you score a hundred. You bat for 6-7 hours. Those are the kind of innings that stand out and as players, we really cherish these. This is what is expected out of me.”
He continued, “Once I got off to a good start, I started enjoying my batting and I did not think too far ahead. Preparation has really been good. All the batters that batted on day one were really focused. I just try to stay in the moment when I am out there in the middle. I have surprised myself with how calm I have been. My focus has always been to stay in the moment and react to the ball that is bowled. Really happy that I could finish the day on a good note.”
The second day was called off due to heavy downpour and as the third day beckons, Rahane and Rahul will have their task cut out, considering the wet surface that they will have to bat on. South African surfaces always promise a lot of pace and the addition of inclement conditions simply adds to the woes of the batters.
