Despite keeping the best of hopes to try and push Jasprit Bumrah in the T20 World Cup squad, the scans that were performed as a part of a routine test to determine the magnitude of the injury revealed that it would take a lot longer than expected for Bumrah to return to the international arcade. Following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists, the BCCI has ruled him out of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Going by the reports of ESPNCricinfo, Bumrah would need at least 6 weeks to get back to his full match fitness that left BCCI with no other choice than to sideline him for the biennial extravaganza for which the team will be taking the flight to Australia on October 6th.

Bumrah missed out on the Asia Cup previously with another stress-related injury but returned to the national squad for the Australia series after four weeks of rehabilitation. He was a part of the 2nd and the 3rd T20Is before being ruled out of the series against the Proteas.

India has the likes of Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar in their standby for the World Cup who will be the likeliest contenders to replace Bumrah. However, sources say that there are talks of trying to test RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj too given his ability to clock 140 clicks consistently.

India's T20 World Cup squad: Rohit Sharma (capt), KL Rahul (vice-capt), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh

Reserve players: Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar
