It's got to be Virat Kohli: Sunil Gavaskar on his choice for ICC Men's Player of the Decade
The debate of who will be crowned the International Cricket Council player of the decade has begun. Earlier in November, ICC announced the nominees for each of the award categories. The list includes some of the best players of this era.
Speaking at Star Sports show 'Cricket Connected', former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar reckons that Virat Kohli has all the credentials to be crowned the player of this decade. The number of matches captain Kohli has won for Team India proves to be a testimony for Gavaskar's claim.
"I think if you look as an individual, then certainly it's got to be Virat Kohli, because if you look at the number of matches he's won for India when India has been chasing big scores," Gavaskar said on Star Sports' show 'Cricket Connected'.
Virat Kohli has scored 20,396 international runs including 66 centuries in this decade. The 32-year-old has been India's most impactful player in most of their wins over the decade.
"I look at the impact a player has had, and not just the runs or wickets that he has taken, and in that aspect, you have got to say that in this decade it really has been Virat Kohli who has had the most impact on the matches that India has won," Gavaskar added.
