It will be a milestone series for Virat Kohli: Sourav Ganguly on India-Australia series

Sachin Tendulkar's sandstorm innings, Dravid-Laxman's marathon partnership, Ishant Sharma's antics, and India's triumphant run in 2018; the iconic occurrences we vividly remember, and whose efficacy will not fizzle away for a long time when we talk about the competitive rivalry between India and Australia.

Speaking to India Today, on a show called 'The Inspiration,' Sourav Ganguly sees India's upcoming red-ball assignment with Australia as a historic series.

"My presidency tenure, I don't know whether I will survive by this December or not. But his captaincy tenure is going to be a yardstick. This will be a milestone series," Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying.

Ganguly stated that he has been having regular interactions with Virat Kohli, reminding him of how important the series is to Indian cricket.

"I have been in touch with him, telling him 'you have got to stay fit. You haven't played cricket for six months."

"You have got to make sure your best bowlers are ready for the tour and fit. Whether it's Shami, whether it's Bumrah, whether it's Ishant, whether it's Pandya, they have to be at the top of their match fitness when they land in Australia, " said Ganguly.

The 48-year-old also demanded a shorter quarantine term than the statutory one for the Indian team when they travel to Australia later this year.

"We have confirmed that tour. In December we will be coming. We just hope the number of quarantine days gets reduced a bit. Because we don't want the players to go all that far and sit in hotel rooms for two weeks. It is very, very depressing and disappointing. We are looking at that, the quarantine thing," he further added.
