It was unlucky: Cheteshwar Pujara on his dismissal in the 1st innings of Chennai Test

Team India finally got their chance to bat on Day 3 of the first Test match at Chennai. England shocked the hosts by picking up wickets very early on the innings. It was yet again Cheteshwar Pujara who stood strong.

Speaking at the virtual press-conference, Cheteshwar Pujara said how unfortunate he was in getting dismissed in one of the most bizarre ways possible. The veteran batsman scored a brilliant half-century which helped India steady the ship.

"That is something which I can't do as a batsman. It was unlucky, I would just say that because that's the only way I thought I could have got out. I was batting really well, I was playing my shots. The way I was seeing the ball, everything was going perfect but that was the most unfortunate way one can imagine. A bit disappointed but there's nothing which I can do as a batsman, there was no technical error," Pujara said during the virtual press-conference.

A scenario which we saw during the Border Gavaskar Trophy Down Under, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant joined forces to bridge a 119-run stand for the fifth wicket. The niche combination of proper counter-attack play witnessed the 33-year-old talismanic approach scored 73 runs off 143 balls and the wicketkeeper-batsman played a swashbuckling inning of 91 runs off 88 balls.

"It's been a crucial partnership for us and I hope this continues. I love batting with him. I'm really happy with the way overall he's playing. He still has to learn a few more things, he still has to put the team in a commanding position because he is capable of that and he's missing out on hundreds. I'm sure he will learn from this but it is good that he is in form," Pujara added.
