It was actually a very beautiful exit meeting – Glenn Maxwell on his call with RCB thinktank
Glenn Maxwell arrived, he conquered and he won over countless hearts at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, after an average outing in IPL 2024, he was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction and will be a part of the upcoming extravaganza which will be taking place in Jeddah on November 24th and 25th.
Maxwell was picked up for INR 14.25 crore by RCB and in the last four seasons that he played for the franchise, he whacked 1266 runs from 52 matches, featuring 12 half-centuries. Apart from the fifties, the breezy rate at which he scored was simply mind-boggling.
Talking on the Around the Wicket podcast, Maxwell narrated how he got a call from Andy Flower, the head coach of RCB and Mo Bobat, the Director of Cricket, where the duo explained why he was being let go and the conversation touched Maxi’s heart.
He said, “I got a phone call from Mo Bobat and Andy Flower. It was a zoom call, they sort of explained to me the decision not to be retained. It was actually a very beautiful exit meeting. We ended up talking about the game for almost half an hour – talking about the strategy, looking to go forward. I was really happy with that.”
He concluded by stating, “If every team did that, I think it would probably make the relationship smoother. I could not speak high enough of the way that they dealt with the whole situation. They are changing a few of their staff as well so they needed to get that sorted before they started talking to players."
