It was a very good catch – Ravindra Jadeja awestruck at Virat Kohli’s stunning catch at second slip in the 1st ODI
As India imposed themselves firmly upon West Indies in the ODI series opener, there were a couple of terrific catching efforts that further added glamour to the visitors’ win. Ravindra Jadeja pulled off an absolute stunner, leaping at point region to take a spectacular catch as Alick Athanaze had to depart.
In an addition to the beauty from Jadeja, Virat Kohli plucked an absolute pearler at the second slip as Romario Shepherd was sent back for a duck. It wasn’t just Shepherd who couldn’t believe his eyes, but Jadeja too was absolutely awestruck at the sheer magnificence of the catch.
Exhibiting razor-sharp reflexes, Kohli went diving to his right as the ball was almost on its way down to the turf, before the former Indian captain was quick to close his fist and pouched the catch.
In a video on the BCCI website, Jadeja opened up about the catch and said, “I felt good... I always take catches off others' bowling and when someone takes a good catch in my bowling, it feels good. It was a very good catch, he had to take it low and it was a sharp catch.”
He further added, “He did not get a lot of time. The batter went for a drive and he had less than a second to react. I would say it was a very very good catch. Shubman Gill also took a nice catch. It was also a low catch. On wickets like these, only when the bowlers get the support of the fielders, their confidence will be boosted. These half-chances should be converted into wickets, then only the bowlers will feel confident.”
