It is not an individual game – Yuzvendra Chahal highlights the importance of the 'team game' mentality

India had their fair share of struggles with the bat as they failed to chase down a modest total of 150 in the T20I series opener against West Indies. As they gear up for the second T20I against the Islanders, a lot of focus will be on how they approach the game, especially on the batting front.

Despite fielding a fairly young Indian team, the Men in Blue did have the reins on their opposition even during West Indies' batting effort, with Yuzvendra Chahal manifesting into one of their key architects in formulating India’s domination with the ball in hand.

West Indies legend, Brian Lara, recently said that he believes India's talent pool has allowed them to field two to three teams simultaneously, and referring to his comments, Chahal was asked about his reaction to being dropped at the expense of another member of the squad.

The leg-spinner was clear on his stance that if he needed to warm the benches to accommodate others in his place, he's more than willing to do that.

At the pre-match presser, Chahal said, “I'm happy that I get a chance to wear the blue Jersey and I'm not at home but traveling with the team. It is not an individual game, I've played chess, which is an individual game. This is a team game and when 15 players walk together, out of which 11 play and we win matches.”

He further added, “I've not been playing in the last two-three series. Previously you would have seen me playing in England or West Indies and Kuldeep (Yadav) was not playing then. We need to look at the team combination, you're playing against whom and where are you playing. If there is a turning wicket here then you can also field three spinners in the XI.”
