It all started in the mind – Rajat Patidar on his technical tweaks ahead of IPL 2026
In IPL 2026, Rajat Patidar has been a formidable force for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Captain Rajat has amassed 230 runs from six innings, averaging a staggering 46 at a strike rate of 212.96. Apart from his incredible numbers, RaPa’s flexibility in the batting order has added an extra zing to the RCB batting unit.
Talking on the latest episode of RCB Podcast, Rajat Patidar opened up on the tweak in technique that has helped him massively. However, he also underlined that more than the physical and tangible part, it is also a change of his mindset that has helped him to unleash the fury that he does with consummate ease.
Patidar said, “Of course, it has come from the mind. It depends on how you are looking at the game at that time. It depends on how you are looking at the situation at that time and what your goal is. It also depends on how you want to dominate the game. So it all started in the mind.”
Explicating the physical details, Patidar added, “Then I changed my trigger movements a little bit, technically changed a bit, and the way I had started myself initially, I was just trying to suss out what really goes well against a fast-bowler. So while changing, I figured out one trigger movement that felt right and then I kept on doing it repeatedly. Then after coming here, I discussed it with DK (Dinesh Karthik) bhai as well. So overall in the nets it was perfect and he also felt that it was working out.”
Rajat continued, “The way the shots were going, that impressed me and DK. So I just had a doubt that it is happening in the nets, so should I bring it in the game or not. I thought should I start with my original movement and then execute the new learning. But then I thought that I’ve doing it for so long and I’ve been doing it in the nets as well, so I have to play the same in the match.”
He concluded by saying, “So I decided that I will be executing my new trigger movement in the match. As soon as I started doing it, whatever doubts I had with the latest maneuver, that was all cleared.”
