IPL Auctions 2021: Five veterans to watch out for
While T20s crave youth, it’s the experience that adds flavours to it. IPL is in its 14th edition now. Over the years, it’s been a part of so many glorious careers. This year at the auctions we there will be a number of veterans whose careers have run parallel with the biggest T20 event in the world.
Harbhajan Singh
The veteran off-spinner has been a part of different IPL franchises over the years and will go under the hammer once again after being released by Chennai Super Kings. Harbhajan’s IPL journey started with the Mumbai Indians and lasted a decade before he was bought by Chennai Super Kings. In 160 IPL matches, Bhajji has bagged 150 wickets with an economy of just over 7. His price this year is INR 2 crores and it will be interesting to see which team bids for one of India’s most successful bowlers.
Umesh Yadav
With 121 IPL games and 119 wickets to his name, Umesh Yadav has been one of the most seasoned campaigners in the league. The strongman has plied his trade across teams and was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore till last year.Umesh’s base price this season is INR 1 crore rupees and will definitely be on the radar of the teams.
Shaun Marsh
Shaun Marsh lit up the IPL as a young batsman in 2008, finishing the tournament with the most runs – 616. Even in the following years, he managed to be among runs for KXIP. Marsh has played for just one team in the IPL and will be interesting to see if he gets a new home this year. The Australian has kept his base price at INR 1.5 crores this year.
Piyush Chawla
When the IPL started Piyush Chawal was still a young leggie making his mark at the senior level. Today he is a veteran of 164 IPL games with 156 wickets. Chawal has played KXIP and KKR in the past and was bought by Chennai Super Kings last season for a whopping 6.5 crore rupees. This year he is the second spinner apart from Harbhajan Singh to be released by CSK. With his base price at 50 lacs and the fact that a leggie is always in demand in T20s, trust Chawla to make a mark at the auctions.
Daniel Christian
At 37 years of age Daniel Christian continues to enthrall and impress like a teenager. The Aussie has been a part of teams like RCB, Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, and Rising Pune Supergiants. He has been in red hot form, playing for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, where he bagged 15 wickets. Base priced at 75 lacs, Dan Christian can very well turn out to be a smart buy for a team this season.
