IPL announces final player list for the auction; 405 players to go under the hammer
Indian Premier League has announced the player list for the upcoming auction in Kochi on December 23rd. A total of 405 cricketers are all set to go under the hammer. A total of 369 players were shortlisted by the 10 franchises out of the 991 players that registered themselves for the auction. An additional list came out when the franchises added a further 36 names to the list.
Out of the 405 players up for the auction, there are 273 Indians and 132 overseas players. Amongst the 405 players who have been enlisted, 119 of them are capped international players while the others have impressed only at a domestic and franchise level.
From amidst the 132 foreign players, 27 are from England which also comprises the likes of Ben Stokes and Joe Root while 21 are from Australia with the much-talked-about Cameron Green finally making his appearance in the auction. Out of the remaining players, 22 are from South Africa, 20 are from West Indies, 10 are from New Zealand and 8 are from Afghanistan.
As the number of slots suggests, out of these 405 players only 87 will have an opportunity to participate in IPL 2023 out of which 30 are slotted for overseas players. The highest price cap that has been set in the upcoming auction is INR 2 crore with 19 overseas players opting to be a part of this bracket. A total of 11 players are on the auction list with a price of INR 1.5 crore while Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal are the only two Indian players in the price bracket of INR 1 crore.
The auction for the 16th season of the IPL will take place on December 23, starting at 2:30 PM IST at Kochi.
