ICC announced the T20 World Cup fixtures that will see India kickstart their campaign with a blockbuster opener against arch-rivals, Pakistan. Reigning champions Australia will start their title defence against continental rivals, New Zealand who were the finalists in the preceding edition.

The schedule released by the ICC has confirmed the fixtures for the first round and the Super 12 groups like the last time. A similar format akin to the 2021 edition has been followed.

The tournament will span from 18th October to 13th November with sixteen teams duking it out for the hallowed silverware in the shortest format of the game. Seven cities in Australia are set to host the showpiece event.

Twelve nations out of the sixteen have been already confirmed while four others will be booking a berth for the biennial extravaganza with global qualifications.

England, New Zealand, Australia and Afghanistan have been drawn in Group 1 while India has been clubbed with Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh in Group 2.

The Super 12 will start with a rollicking encounter in Sydney between two finalists of 2021 that will see Australia and New Zealand get involved in an old-school slugfest on Saturday 22nd October.

The thrill of the opening week will extend to another electrifying face-off between India and Pakistan. The Super 12 will be spanning for a couple of weeks with its denouement coming on November 5th and 6th.

The two aforementioned clashes aren’t just the ones that would spark thrill and excitement. There are other breathtaking fixtures too that will witness England seeking retribution against New Zealand for an ouster from the precursor edition of the tournament.

The first round of the fray will begin with a fierce six-day contest to determine the final four teams of the Super 12.

Sri Lanka and Namibia will be clubbed with two further joinees in Group A with West Indies and Scotland awaiting further arrivals in Group B.

The first round will comprise daily double-headers which will be convened on alternate days at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval and Geelong’s Kardinia Park. The winner of Group A and runner-up of Group-B will be will joining the other teams of Group A in the Super 12 Stage. The winner of Group B and the runner of Group A will join the other Group B contestants in the second round.

The Sydney Cricket Ground will be hosting the first semi-final on November 9th while the second semi-final will be held at the Adelaide Oval. The final of the T20 fiesta will be played at the bedecked Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Seven venues will be coming together to host this grand showdown that will star the likes of Kardinia Park in Geelong which will be featuring the contests of the opening round while Bellerive Oval in Hobart will play host to nine matches in all. Gabba, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide will be conducting the remaining contests.
