Indian women team to tour England in August: Report

While the BCCI is yet to finalize a course for cricket’s return in the country, it has been learnt that the Indian women’s team will travel to England in August for a tri-nation series, which will also feature South Africa.

According to a report in Sportstar, “The discussions between the BCCI and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are well on course."

“As of now, unless the COVID-19 situation worsens, it’s only a matter of getting the government go-ahead,” Sportstar quoted a BCCI insider.

Earlier in June during a podcast on BBC, ECB chief executive Tom Harrison had indicated that a series might be likely featuring the Indian team.

The India team could depart around August 20, with the series starting around September 10 post the completion of isolation period by the players said the report. However, with travel restrictions in place, the board will need to take the clearance from the Indian government.

In the meantime, before going ahead with the tour, which will heavily be about ensuring the health measures in place for the contingent, the board will also have to finalize the selection panel that has been vacant for more than three months now.

Almost a dozen former India players have applied for the posts and are awaiting a response from the BCCI.
