India-W clinch series with a game to spare as batters lead bombs-away offence
The Indian women pocketed another home series with pomp as they blew apart the Windies in the second ODI to clinch an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series. Winning the toss, India opted to bat first and another clinical show from the openers saw the hosts making merry.
Smriti Mandhana (53) and Pratika Rawal (76) got India off to a flyer as they added 110 runs for the opening stand. Following which Harleen Deol led the charge and clubbed the visitors to various nooks and crannies of the park, smashing a stunning 115 from just 103 balls.
She had support coming in from Harmanpreet Kaur (22) as well as the Indians kept on scoring at a breezy rate. Jemimah Rodrigues fired home a fiery 52 while Richa Ghosh stepped up with an unbeaten 6-ball-13, clobbering a couple of boundaries. India posted 358/5 from their 50 overs, bettering their total in the first match by a comprehensive margin.
The West Indies captain, Hayley Matthews was the solitary fighter for the visitors as she blasted 106 from 109 balls. However, lack of support and the constant fall of wickets at the other end, dampened her spirit and the number on the board that the visitors had to shoot down didn’t make her life easy either.
Despite a late surge of resistance coming in from Shemaine Campbell (38), Zaida James (25) and Afy Fletcher (22), the rest of the batters failed to step up for West Indies and the Indian bowlers waited for no second invitation in wrapping things up at the earliest possible cue.
Priya Mishra was the pick of the Indian lot with numbers of 3/49 while she had support from Pratika Rawal, Titas Sadhu and Deepti Sharma as they claimed two wickets each. India registered another stunning 115-runs victory with Harleen Deol winning the Player of the Match award for her sparkling century.
