India vs South Africa ODI Series Called off
The BCCI continues taking stringent measures to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. After postponing the start of IPL 2020 to 15th April, it has now decided to call off the remaining two ODIs between India and South Africa.
The first match of the series in Dharamsala on 12th March was washed out without a ball being bowled.
India has recently returned from a challenging series against the Kiwis in New Zealand, while South Africa are fresh off their ODI series win against Australia at home.
Amid increasing concern due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the ticket sales for the last two ODI fixtures were instantly stopped on Thursday afternoon. With multiple events and football leagues such as the La Liga in Spain and the Serie A in Italy suspended or being played behind closed doors, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) followed suit.
Earlier, after ascertaining the situation and adhering to the advisory issued by the health ministry to sports bodies of the country, the board had decided to organize the last two matches in Lucknow and Kolkata behind closed doors. However, recent developments have forced the BCCI to call off the remaining two matches.
The Indian government has been taking all the necessary precautions to contain the spread of the virus in the country. So far, more than 60 positive cases have been reported in India.
